Think not by this,
My Grave is Shown
Hard Fate Decreed,
I should have none.

I've chosen this gravestone because I feel that I can get a great story out of it. It was found in Providence, Rhode Island. I found information about Sylvanus Hopkins, a sailor on Captain Thomas Kilton's vessel in 1753 that was sailing in Cape Breton. The boat was wrecked by a very strong wind [gale] and the survivors were washed onto the shore where they were then "Inhumanly Murdered by Cruel Savages" [Indians]. Sylvanus Hopkins was the son of Stephen Hopkins, one of the two politicians from Rhode Island that signed the Declaration of Independence. His mother was Sarah Scott. Sylvanus had 7 other siblings, but not all of them lived through maturity. He was the 5th child of his father, born in Scituate, Providence, Rhode Island on the 30 of November,1735. He died on the 23rd of April, 1753. I personally found this very interesting and thought that I could make a lot out of this information.
